Chapter 1: Preface: The Guided Learning System

Welcome to the Guided Learning System

Hello!

The Centre for Education and Work has designed a unique delivery system for on-line learning. This system allows you to navigate through text, videos, audio interviews, and pictures in the Working to Learn EBook.

The Guided Learner System (GLS) is an easy and user-friendly way to learn. As you go through the system, you may get prompted to download free software from the Internet. This software will allow you to view videos, listen to interviews, or look at pictures, all of which are an important part of the Working to Learn learning experience.

The Learning Objects

The Guided Learning System contains Learning Objects - text, audio clips, video clips, links to websites, maps and so on. The Learning Objects are memory devices, designed to help reinforce the lesson for the learner.

Learning Objects not only provide variety to written text. The Learning Objects in a Guided Learning System reinforce learning by directly connecting to the range of learning styles that exist among learners. Visual learners, auditory learners, even kinesthetic learners will find compatibility with their dominant learning style in the Working to Learn EBook.

There was no talking so i really didnt get anything off of it, i learn better with audio or someone reading it to. The music was nice there was some text that i could remember.

Stanford has a point, the video needs a lil' bit of 'something', there's no audio or any sort of 'teaching' it's kinda just a video put together showing you ideas and a few of the pages of this website. Definitely need to change or upgrade this video in the near future.

The music made it more dramatic.

I had to start it again about half way through because I thought the music and words were and intro. Didn't really understand what the clip was about, but I took portfolio development before so I guess I kind of know what they're talking about... if that makes sense?

Feel the Video left me kinda clueless, had some key point with essential skills, but also seemed like more of an advertisement, I agree with the other comments, some audio speaking would easily replace the music,

this looks and sounds like the web equivalent of a radio jingle. Not bad but I think some dialogue would work better.

Hearing a narrator throughout the video would've made it more interesting.

Yeah, definately needs a narrator...The keyboard used in the music has a pretty poor piano sound...

Like everyone has already said, needs some narrative. Other than that, good video.

This video gave me a great overview of what the Centre for Education and Work and Magle website can be utilized for and what they are about. Although I too needed to watch the video twice to get the jist of it, it was a great opportunity to view things I might have missed watching it only once.
